11 months and counting

Hard to believe it's just one month until Garland is 1...She's pretty excited about her first birthday and has been calling all her friends to tell them about it. According to her, it's imperative that they come...

...or they will miss her fine piano skills. And, she would hate for them to do that.

She's pretty sure her cousin Mallie will come, as she doesn't miss a party, but figures it doesn't hurt to show her a little extra love just in case.

and she ensures everyone that there will be plenty of tp that they can unroll and string around the house. It's her favorite past time currently, and she is positive that everyone will enjoy taking part in the festivities.

She did stop her campaign long enough for me to get her 11 month picture. It was a good thing that this one turned out. It's the only one I was able to take, before she was off to take on the world.

The pig and the pumpkin

Garland was a pig for her first Halloween.

She's pretty aware of the pose - in fact, we got her outside for her school parade and she abandoned the parade, walked right over to a bench and gave us her favorite older the shoulder smile. Tyra watch out...

We hung out a little with cousin Mallie - the lady bug.

Then went to a Halloween party where Garland was very intrigued by her buddy Katharine's crab costume.

Lastly, we finished the night at home for some rainy and cold trick or treating...

And after tiring of the pig outfit and the pumpkins...we had a small melt down before bed.

October

Garland's 9th Month was full of firsts - her first pair or blue jeans, her first run in with a bully (bitten at daycare) and most importantly her first steps. About half way through the month she decided she would set the world a blaze and started walking. And not just stumbling...although there is a lot of that involved, especially when tired, but fast walking with intention. Places to go, people to see walking.

So, now are lives are full of chasing the wild girl all over the place.

and the chase is one of her favorite things...luckily she is not too hard to catch.

And of course, first steps lead to the need for your first pair of tennis shoes. So in true Atlanta fashion she sports her Adidas kicks all over the place. She loves them and plays with the Velcro endlessly. She also has extremely strong thighs...and can stay in this position for hours. Yoga instructors would be so proud...

And finally, we had our 9 month check-up, but at 10 months because we are a month behind. Garland remained in the high 90s for height and mid 70s for weight. The dr told me she was probably going to be long and lean...I laughed...

Life is good.

Garland...

There's a lot of talk about who Garland looks like...

hmm....

so, obviously me...with her blond hair and blue eyes, we are regular twins.

or the spitting image of Glenn. You be the judge, but it looks like she may have curly hair in the end. When we don't brush her hair at night she gets a little curl that sticks straight up and curls backwards...it's awesome.

September

Garland turned 9 months on Friday! She seems to love music - she plays her piano, dances and loves to watch Glenn play the guitar and harmonica.

Watch out - the world's next Mozart!

9 months and now I destroy my lamb...

The Gorillas at the Atlanta Zoo. There were so many babies playing. They were amazing.

Garland didn't think they were all that amazing...she gave them her typical razzzzzzz...

She was even less impressed by the giant pandas and decided to join them in their afternoon nap.

Summer 2009

It's been a busy and exciting summer for us. Garland has become extremely active - crawling, pulling up, cruising and talking. My guess is she walks by Labor Day - watch out world. She has welcomed 2 new cousins - Maya Beattie and Mallie Segars and three new 2nd cousins - Betsy Ankar, Dorothy Whatley and Leslie Mitchell. We've spent a lot of time at the lake - Garland loves to swim, and we just got back from a trip to visit her Great Grandparents in Roaring Gap, NC.

We have big changes ahead! Glenn goes back to get his MBA at Alabama on the 19th of August. Garland and I are going to stay in Atlanta till our house sells, then our whole family is relocating back to Alabama - sweet home. My fabulous employer, Verizon Wireless, is going to let me work remotely -- which takes an unbelievable amount of stress off us (me). So, folks trash the iPhone, and if you haven't already make the switch to America's largest most reliable wireless network. It's your chance to align yourself with a company that truly values its employees and even in this economy is one of the top hiring companies in the country. Now, that I am in my 30's, have been through multiple job searches, and have witnessed more than my fair share off layoffs - I can truly appreciate those 2 facts...
ahh, to be 8 months old again...where the most troublesome thing in your life is the inordinate amount of pictures your mother makes you pose for...

We got action jackson...

To honor our country's independence, Garland decided to find some of her own and become an official crawler. She's been scooting around now for a couple of weeks, going backwards, getting stuck underneath chairs, turning in circles...but, now...now...she has discovered the beauty of forward motion and there is no stopping her.

She wore a...

itsy-bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini...or in Garland's case a pink and red polka dot and not so itsy-bitsy, but still pretty darn cute. Thanks Aunt Kat! We'll aim for no diaper blow outs, so it can make it next year for Baby Mallie.

Growing uPPPP!

My, time flies when you have a 5 month old....so much so, that we missed our 4 month old blog and all updates in between. The good news is that she is happy and healthy - weighing in at around 15 and a half lbs and measuring a little over 26".   She's a busy thing - rolling and sitting up, grabbing and babbling...

I've included lots of pictures of Gar-Gar as we have started to call her..I just noticed that she has pink on in every shot, which is humorous to me since she didn't have one pink thing prior to December 11th, 2008...

Spring!

Finally, the rain has stopped and the sun is out and what better way to celebrate than to bust out your first lilly pulitzer dress!  And then to subsequently spit up all over it so you only have the bottoms to wear.

Garland's loving her feet these days. She is very active reaching for and touching anything that comes in her radius...and of course everything goes straight to the mouth.  She's content to play by herself, but loves nothing more than for us to get down on the ground with her. For those of you whose babies take pacifiers I highly suggest the wubanub -- we think its the greatest invention in the infant world since the bumbo.  Till next time - happy springing!

I am 3 months!

Garland turned 3 months on Wednesday, March 11th. She celebrated with a long drink of milk and a round of her favorite activities - intense kicking,  some side rolling, and a warm bath. Her desire to eat the lamb made it difficult to capture a good picture, but did allow for the priceless picture progression below.
